  1. A new improved version of Boot-Suite (v2.30) is now available, to replace
  2. all previous including that last release v2.12.
  3.  
  4. Latest version available now from 'http://www.city.ac.uk/~cb159/arc_file.html'

  6. For those that haven't heard of Boot-Suite before, the system allows
  7. hard-disk based machines to provide support for multiple users on the same
  8. machine.  Each user can have there own desktop boot file and home
  9. directory, which is run/setup whenever they login.  A number of extra
  10. functions are provided such as:-
  11.  
  12. * Desktop filer protection - protects all !Boot files (for normal users).
  13. * Easy to use setup program (hopefully).
  14. * Can integrate with Acorns !Boot system or act as a primary system for
  15.   use on RISC OS 3.1 machines.
  16. * Strong-Arm aware.
  17.  
  18.  
  19. New features include:-
  20.  
  21. * Each user can now have their own home directory.
  22.  
  23. * Changing passwords is now not limited to super-users, users can now
  24.   change there own passwords, using the new !SetPass utility.
  25.  
  26. * There is now the option to load an icon onto the iconbar (next to the
  27.   apps folder) to provide a shortcut to the users home directory. Also
  28.   from here users can start many of boot-suites utilities.  These 
  29.   include:-
  30.     i)    Show Home Directory 
  31.     ii)    Show Utils Directory
  32.     iii)    Show Choices Directory
  33.     iv)    Start !SetPass    - Change the current users password
  34.     v)    Start !BootOpt    - Configure Boot-Suite
  35.     vi)    Start !BootInfo    - Display Log files.
  36.     vii)    Start !Password - Re-login, without restarting
  37.     viii)    Start !Q-LogOff    - A convenient way for beginners to
  38.                   remember to log-off.
  39.  
  40. * All of the existing utilities have been improved, with various bug
  41.   fixes.
  42.  
  43. * System data files, can now be stored in custom directories to allow for
  44. integration with FSLock, allowing Boot-Suite to operate on write locked
  45. drives.  Also a backup option is provided, so that if system data files
  46. which are stored in read/write locations are deleted or corrupted they can
  47. be automatically recreated/restored using the backups.

  49. * Plenty more features, that have escaped me for now.

  53. of the help files are out of date, and need re-writing.  If users have
